An Undersea Restaurant

These are photographs of Ithaa, the unique undersea restaurant that opened at the Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa Rangali Island in April 2005. The following pictures show it being lowered into the water. Ithaa means "pearl" in the local Dhivehi language. It is a tiny restaurant, with seating for only 12 people. It offers diners a "spectacular underwater view of colorful fish, sharks and other sea life in the surrounding coral reefs through curved, transparent acrylic walls. The cost per person for dinner ranges from $187 to $220.

Build it and they will come.

A young couple in Alaska built this playground in their back yard for their children. The next morning, when they looked out the window, this is what they saw... Bears - they know how to have fun!

Antique Lunch Boxes

Parents 100 years ago often gave their schoolchildren an empty tobacco or coffee tin to carry some fresh-picked strawberries and bread, a wedge of cheese, and possibly a handful of shelled hickory nuts. American industrial workers have often carried their lunch in plain metal buckets. Since the mid-19th century, miners, factory workers, dock hands, and other laborers have used sturdy dinner pails to hold hard-boiled eggs, vegetables, meat, coffee, pie, and other hardy fare. Here is a collection of antique lunch boxes. This one looks like an old time beverage container. Cool huh?
