Brown Recluse Spider Bite

The following illustrates the progression of a brown recluse spider bite. The affected skin actually dies on his body! Some of the pictures towards the end are pretty nasty, but take a look at the last one - it is a picture of the spider itself. Day 3 Day 5 Day 6 Day 9 Day 10 The Brown Recluse Spider is the most dangerous spider that we have in the USA. A person can die from it's bite. We all should know what the spider looks like: Send this around to people you love, because it is almost summertime. People will be digging around, doing yard work, spring cleaning, and sometimes in their attics. Please be careful. Spider bites are dangerous and can have permanent and highly negative consequences. They like the darkness and tend to live in storage sheds or attics or other areas that might not be frequented by people or light. If you have a need to be in your attic, go up there and turn on a light and leave it on for about 30 minutes before you go in to do your work!

Pogo Moose Incident - Fairbanks Alaska

Without the picture, this would be hard to believe. Here's what happened: "They were laying new power cables which were strung on the ground for miles. The moose are rutting right now and very agitated. He was thrashing around and got his antlers stuck in the cables. When the men (miles away) began pulling the lines up with their big equipment, the moose went up with them. They noticed excess tension in the lines and went searching for the problem. He was still alive when they lowered him to the ground. He was a huge 60 inch bull and slightly peeved!"

Never Play With Darts!

Here's a really good reason not to get a set of darts for your kids for Christmas... then again, it might be a really good reason to get a set of darts for certain kids for Christmas... Ok... no... I'm just kidding... And, actually, I'm pretty sure this is a photo manipulation.

Timing is everything when it comes to amazing action photos. Often the most interesting, bizarre, or funny images are taken right at the moment when disaster strikes, capturing and freezing a moment in time that normally would be impossible to see. Sometimes you are in the right place at the right time, and sometimes you just get lucky.

Foot Binding

Foot binding was a custom practiced on young females for approximately one thousand years in China, beginning in the 10th century and ending in the early 20th century. In Chinese foot binding, young girls’ feet, usually at age 6 but often earlier, were wrapped in tight bandages so that they could not grow and develop normally; they would, instead, break and become highly deformed, not growing past 4-6 inches. As the girl reached adulthood, her feet would remain small and dysfunctional, prone to infection, paralysis, and muscular atrophy. When I read about it in books, it sounds strange and unkind... when I see it in person, I am shocked and appalled!

Here's something I found at Weird Asia News. Thailand’s Chinese spend the ninth month of the lunar calendar abstaining from meat and various stimulants in the belief that doing so will bring them health and peace of mind. The whole thing culminates in the Piercing and Pain Festival featuring people who pierce their bodies and go through self-inflicted pain in the belief they are driving out their demons and purging their bodies of evil spirits. Yowsers!
